Gov. Ortom of Benue State – I lack powers to reverse or adjust Benue grazing law

Governor Samuel Ortom has expressed that he did not have the forces to turn around or influence changes in accordance with the Benue To state Open Grazing Prohibition Law which was instituted last May in the state yet happened on November 1. 

Gov Samuel Ortom He clarified that the law which was made on the whole by the general population of the state was made for the all in all enthusiasm of the two ranchers and herders alike. 

The Governor who spoke Tuesday not long after a gathering with the state and zonal authority of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN in Makurdi, said the law had come to stay however would be actualized with human face. 

He stated, “MACBAN had asked for more opportunity to empower them alter and adjust with the arrangements of the law yet I guaranteed them that the law would be executed with a human face and that is being finished.

“Notwithstanding while the law is being executed, dialogs amongst MACBAN and Benue State Government would proceed with a view to forming out methods for guaranteeing peace amongst agriculturists and herders in the express.”

The Governor clarified that the principle goal of the gathering was the capture and seizure of some steers in rupture of the farming law, focusing on that the State Government had consented to discharge the cows to their proprietors after the installment of fines as stipulated by the law. 

The North Central Zonal Chairman of MACBAN, Alhaji Danladi Chiroma said his gathering were prepared to submit to the arrangements of the law and to participate with the State government to uncover criminal components in charge of the present emergency in the state.
