Working From Home: 4 ways to Fight Distraction

To achieve a successful work routine at home, change your mindset and see your home no different than your office. Items on your to-do list should be completed and not seen as options you can neglect.

Working from home amidst numerous distractions is not as comfortable as most people are made to believe. This is because discipline is still an issue most people working from home struggle with.

Here we look at techniques that you must try and adjust to, to boost your productivity even at home.

1. Make An Agenda, And Meet It.

To achieve a successful work routine at home, change your mindset and see your home no different than your office. Items on your to-do list should be completed and not seen as options you can neglect.

So, first, start by writing all pre-planned items in one colour on your calendar and then all those new upcoming during the day items in another. This colour coordination allows you to see which tasks you started with for the day, which under no circumstance can be left undone. Using an old school paper calendar can also be helpful so that your eyes can look away from the computer you use all day when focus on what to work on next.

2. Be On Time.

In our fast-paced world being on time can be quite difficult to maintain.
You may decide to start your day by going to the gym from 8-10 but end up sleeping in till 9. Dump lateness by respecting your own time, and considering all activities on your calendar of equal importance.
Stick to your time tables and most importantly learn to be honest with yourself as you create them.

3. Silence Your Phone. Cut Off Your Email:

This method may be hard to adopt especially as a parent but after several trials, you‘ll quickly realize why it is so important. Truth be told, it’s super distracting to work with music or check emails often throughout the day, or even chat with friends while working. It is also very counter-productive on many levels. Remove these distractions by working in a quiet place without interruptions or distractions, and you would be amazed at the level of tasks you’d achieve.

4. Take Breaks Outside of Your Home.

Instead of taking breaks by just grabbing a bite in the fridge or simply changing rooms in the house for a few minutes. You can take a few minutes by leaving your house to get some fresh air. Head out somewhere to recharge yourself. This method helps your mind feel refreshed and enables you to get back to work faster and harder than before. With these methods, you’d realize that working from home productively is not so difficult!.
